A highly interactive workshop where Rural GP’s will be given opportunity to learn basic to advanced neonatal resuscitation skills, and how to recognise and manage neonatal sepsis, and extreme jaundice. RACGP accredited activity for 40 CPD points for the 2020-22 triennium. ACRRM accredited activity for PDP hours 1 educational activity and 7 performance review and MOPS hours 6 emergency medicine and 6 obstetrics and gynaecology.

Approved for 1x day Emergency or 1x Day Obstetric in the Rural Procedural Grants Program.

Marcus is a neonatologist in the Flinders Neonatal Unit who is a passionate and committed clinician and teacher, and has been active in teaching Neonatal Advanced Life Support for many years. Marcus has ASUM certification with extensive knowledge of bed-side ultrasound including echocardiography.

Scott is a neonatologist and currently Head of Unit in the Flinders Neonatal Unit. He is interested in all aspects of neonatal intensive care, teaching trainees clinical and procedural skills, medical student teaching, clinical research, and development of guidelines for neonatal care.

Dr Vanessa Ellison

Neonatologist

Vanessa is a Neonatologist at Flinders Medical Centre, SALHN, and a lecturer in Paediatrics at Flinders University South Australia. Vanessa is strongly committed to improving health outcomes and experiences of all women, infants, children and families who seek care at Southern Adelaide Local Health Network. Special interests include teaching of Neonatal Advanced Life Support skills, implementation of Pasteurised Donor Human Milk introduction at FMC and delivery of a high quality and safe service within the Neonatal Unit at FMC. Vanessa has held a number of leadership roles including quality, risk and safety within the Neonatal Unit, at state level with the Neonatal Advisory Committee, and Maternity, Neonatal and Gynaecology Community of practice. Nationally Dr Ellison is a member of the Advanced Training Committee for Neonatal Perinatal Medicine with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and the Australian New Zealand Neonatal Network follow up group.

Fiona is a senior Neonatal Critical Care Nurse in the Flinders Medical Centre Neonatal Unit. She is a leader in the organisation and delivery of Neonatal Advanced Life Support training at Flinders Medical Centre and in outreach settings.

Kate Hastwell

Kate is a Neonatal Nurse Educator and Neonatal Critical Care Nurse at Flinders Medical Centre with a strong passion for teaching Newborn Life Support, Neonatal Advanced Life Support and stabilisation. Kate has worked as a clinical educator for 10 years including experience working in rural North-West QLD as a Nurse Educator teaching resuscitation and stabilisation of the neonate.

Leonie Lively

Leonie has worked in the Flinders Neonatal Unit since 1988 and as a Neonatal Critical Care Nurse since 1993. Leonie is passionate about education especially in the clinical area and has been the Clinical Nurse Educator in both the Special Care nursery and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit since 2004. She teaches and supports all our staff in both clinical areas and trains staff in Newborn Life Support and Neonatal Advanced Life support.

Petra is a senior Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at Flinders Medical Centre. In her daily role she is skilled in all aspects of acute neonatal care. She is also experienced in delivering in-house and outreach education resuscitation education.

Dr Rosanne Skalicky

Rural Generalist in Critical Care, Royal Flying Doctors SA

Dr Skalicky (often referred to as ‘Dr Rose’), is a senior Emergency Physician with extensive national and international experience. Having worked as an emergency physician in Tasmania, Queensland, and South Australia (RAH), Dr Rose headed overseas in 2009. With a passion for equitable access to healthcare and international development in EM, Dr Rose has spent the last decade working overseas in a fulltime capacity – remote NW Tanzania and most recently in Myanmar. In Myanmar, Dr Rose worked under the Ministry of Health developing acute emergency services and training nationally, which included a full-time teaching and clinical load. Having returned to Australia in early 2021 Dr Rose is currently employed by the RFDS as a Rural Generalist in Critical Care, working primarily out of Port Augusta.

Dr Roses’ professional interests include:

·Improving equity in health access
·Health care development of EM in low-middle income countries
·Capacity building of Health staff

When not at work Dr Rose enjoys caring for her family, reading, craft, and obviously seeing new places, and engaging with people from different cultures.
